Before You Leave
Call us and let us know that you wish to use Global Roaming, as we’ll need to enable it for your number. Access to Global Roaming is granted at our discretion and we may ask you to provide additional security while you’re away.
When you get there
Simply turn your phone on when you reach your destination. Within 30 seconds, most phones automatically select an ACN roaming partner network if coverage is available.
Note: If you’re visiting some countries such as the USA and Canada, you’ll require a GSM 1900MHz (tri-band) or GSM 850Mhz (quad-band) compatible handset.
Making calls
When you roam, your outgoing calls use the foreign network just like any domestic customer of that network.
When you make a call you’ll be charged the respective national or international zone rate. These charges include local taxes and any applicable ACN surcharges (see table below).
Receiving calls
Calls you receive while roaming are forwarded from our network in Australia. Your callers dial (and are charged) as if you’re in Australia. You will be charged the additional cost to forward the call overseas to your phone. This cost includes the ACN international mobile rate to your location plus our flagfall (27¢ per call). You are also charged an incoming airtime rate when you receive calls.

Save 20% using preferred local networks
In selected countries you can SAVE 20% off the standard zone rates by using our preferred local network partners. When you are traveling in the countries listed below, chances are your phone will be logged onto one of our preferred partner networks. However, the network that appears on your phone may not always be a preferred network. You can select a preferred network manually using your phone’s menu to ensure you enjoy our 20% off rates.

Using GPRS overseas
GPRS is supported on certain overseas networks (click here for a list of networks), allowing you to send MMS and use GPRS data services like Wireless Internet and Mobile Mail.
MMS sent while roaming is charged at 75¢ per message plus 20¢ per 10KB (or part thereof).
GPRS usage is charged at 20¢ per 10KB (or part thereof).
Bridge Mobile Alliance
Our GSM network partner, Optus, is a member of the Bridge Mobile Alliance. Using a Bridge Mobile Alliance network operator while roaming in Asia will SAVE YOU 25% off the standard GPRS roaming rates for usage on these networks*.

Roaming on any one of these networks also means you’ll be able to access your voicemail using the same short-dial code – 321 – as you do here in Australia#.
* MMS is not currently supported by Airtel (India) and CTM (Macau SAR).
# Short-dial codes are not supported on Airtel’s network in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra.
We’ve put together a downloadable ACN Guide to Global Roaming to keep handy while you’re traveling.
